- Injury Prevention: This is probably one of the most obvious reasons we need to rest. Overworking muscles and joints can lead to tears and other injuries. Our muscle tissues need time to repair in order for them to work at their best.
- Prevent Burnout: Doing any activity too much can eventually lead to burnout. You may not think you could ever get burned out on working out, but eventually training daily can easily make it not enjoyable anymore. Relax and give yourself a break on your day off, and prepare for a great week ahead. Mentally, working out everyday is very tiring, and in my opinion, mental health is as important as physical.
- Good for the Immune System: When we are active, our immune system is always having to work to repair muscles and tissues in our bodies. Eventually, with no rest, our immune system cannot heal our muscles properly, resulting in injury. Rest days will also help with sleep as it helps to decrease restlessness.
- Our muscles grow when we rest. The fibers and tissues are able to repair and are then ready to be worked again.
